Back To School

15 days to give 8 children the chance to go to school

Laughs and shrieks echo in the schoolyard. It's back to school!

In the UK, the new school year is about to begin...

After a long summer break, the arrival of September means returning to an everyday routine for our kids. Their uniforms are clean and tidy. Their pencils are sharpened. Their school bags are packed. It's time to go back to school!

Is every child going back to school?

In Myanmar, many children are waiting to join the classes.

For 20 million young people in Southeast Asia, there will be no back-to-school. You can sponsor a child for the 2021 school year with Children of the Mekong and help fill the classroom.

You can help make a difference

Every time a child is sponsored, they join the school physically, and their avatars join the virtual classroom.

Our Back-To-School campaign will last 15 days. It is an excellent opportunity to make our children aware of the importance of education to build their future.

A Challenge for Tedim Children

Child sponsorship is a unique opportunity for children to access education

Most people in the Tedim district rely on agriculture for their livelihood. Everything is still done by manual labour. The town, located on a plateau in a very mountainous region, is difficult to access.

A high proportion of children are not pursuing education. Various reasons can explain such low school enrollment rate, including:

- difficult access to infrastructure,

- a lack of involvement and/or means of parents in their children’s education

- above all, children might have to work rather than study to bring food home

This child sponsorship programme provides a unique opportunity for the children in the poorest families in Tedim and the neighbouring villages to be educated.

Sponsoring a child means allowing them to go to school.

Children of the Mekong meets the needs of the field. Needs are different from one region to another, and even from one child to another.  This is why individual child sponsorship is an effective, adapted and personalised solution.

For £28 per month, you pay for your sponsored child's schooling, transport, school materials, uniform, additional classes and hygiene kit.

When you become a sponsor, you receive a Welcome Pack with more information about your sponsorship, and a photo of your child.

Since 1958, Children of the Mekong supports children in Southeast Asia. Child sponsorship is the main way we support children. In 2020, our work had an impact on 22,300 sponsored children and 60,000 supported children who were able to access education, build their lives, and find employment. Children of the Mekong is a registered charity with the Charity Commission (No. 1116375).
